Lenovo is hosting an event today in India, where it will be launching the Z2 Plus smartphone. As the name suggests, the smartphone launching today is basically the ZUK Z2 that launched in China earlier this year. Lenovo seems to be dropping the ZUK moniker for the Indian market all together. Lenovo’s event is set to kick off at 12PM IST, and you can watch the live stream of the event online from the comfort of your home or office. Lenovo will be live streaming the Z2 Plus launch event on its YouTube channel. In the run up to the event, Lenovo has teased different aspects of the smartphone, including the design, the internal heat conduction technology, the fingerprint scanner and a new U-health app. The smartphone is said to boast a body made out of materials that is ‘stronger and lighter than metal’. It also boasts an internal heat conduction technology that prevents the device from overheating. The home button is expected to come with U-Touch technology that will be used for navigation and also double up as a fingerprint scanner. The last feature being teased is a health app called U-health that should save and give you access to your health-related information. Lenovo has also revealed that the Z2 Plus will be available exclusively via Amazon India.
Lenovo Z2 Plus specifications
From what has been already been known and officially revealed, the Lenovo Z2 Plus is expected to sport a 5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) LCD display. Under the hood, it will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset along with 4GB of RAM. It will come with 64GB internal storage. On the camera front, the Lenovo Z2 Plus will feature a 13-megapixel primary camera, which will come with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, electronic image stabilization (EIS) and 4K video recording capabilities, while on the front it will feature an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 80 degrees wide-angle lens.
The smartphone will be fueled by a 3,500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. For connectivity, the smartphone is expected to offer options like dual-SIM, 4G LTE support, USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Z2 Plus will run on Android Marshmallow 6.0 wrapped under ZUI 2.0.
The Lenovo Z2 Plus is said to be the rebranded version of the Lenovo ZUK Z2, which is available in China for 1,800 Yuan, which is approximately Rs 18,400. In India, the smartphone is expected to be launched in the vicinity of Rs 20,000. If the smartphone is priced in this range, it will be competing against the likes of theXiaomi Mi 5, Asus Zenfone 3 and OnePlus 3.
