DataWind PocketSurfer GZ Smartphone With Linux OS Launched at Rs 1,499
According to Datawind, their mission is to deliver low-cost internet connectivity. Their mission is to bring the internet, which has the ability to create tremendous social and economic benefits, to billions of unconnected people.
Recently, the company has partnered with Reliance Communications to offer free internet for one year with their phone. DataWind has introduced a new smartphone in a market at the Price of Just Rs.1499 with 1-year free internet which is named as PocketSurfer GZ.
Datawind didn’t share any information regarding the recently launched handset PocketSurfer GZ. However, the most appealing feature of this phone is the device ships with the Linux Operating System. But if we take a look at the phone’s photo then we can assume that the phone will be Touchscreen and will have a rear camera with LED flash.
Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of DataWind said “We are focused on driving the cost downward to a level where access to technology becomes universally affordable and democratization of technology finds its true meaning. Therefore, this new launch of the smartphone at just Rs 1499 is a step towards that direction. This will certainly enhance the connectivity in the developing nations”
When he was asked the reason behind such low-cost devices then he said that “Hands-free communication has become extremely important and we feel strongly that this technology should reach every corner of the world. DataWind aims to breaks the affordability barriers and bandwidth constraints of networks touching the mass of India at a whole new level.”
According to the reports from International Data Corporation (IDC). DataWind had 27.6% share as shipments grew by a healthy 33.5% over the past four months. However, Freedom 251 from ringing bells still holds the title of the cheapest smartphone.
